Description
I found myself in Knoxville, Tennessee, for a short time, so I took advantage of the trip and spent the weekend in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. In order to reach Mount LeConte, I took the standard Alum Cave Trail. The Mount LeConte massif consists of four minor points, the highest being High Top at 6,593', the third highest point in Tennessee. West Point, Cliff Top, and Myrtle Point make up the remaining three named points. Although I checked out the views from Cliff Top, I didn't add it to my peak list. Attractions along the trail include Arch Rock, Alum Caves, and the Mount LeConte Lodge. I started early enough to only run in to a few people on the way up, but upon my return, I saw around 100 people. The Smoky Mountains National Park is the most visited of all national parks.
