Description

This hike was a weak attempt at the alpine ice climb All Mixed Up.  The route was getting climbed and we wanted to make an attempt.  Jeff had a friend in town, so the three of us hiked into Mills Lake and beyond.  The approach to the lake was easy, and then we started to gain elevation quickly through the trees to the east face of Thatchtop Mountain.  We worked our way to the base of the climb which ended up being somewhat strenuous.  Once at the slab first pitch, it was fairly evident that there wasn't nearly as much ice as when Jeff climbed it last Spring.  Jeff and I didn't want to start out the season in over our heads since neither of us had swung the tools much this year.  We scrambled back down to the lake and called it a day.
