Description

I was working in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, for the week and was enjoying the area.  After road biking the canyon on Monday and hiking to Hanging Lake on Tuesday, I hiked the Storm King Mountain 14 Memorial Trail just west of town.  This trail was built after 1994 when 14 firefighters died in a fire on the slopes of Storm King Mountain.  The trail memorializes there efforts and takes the hiker through some of the terrain that the firefighters faced.  Instead of crossing the canyon and hiking to the exact locations where the bodies were recovered, I decided to continue up a ridge to extend the hike beyond the lookout point and memorial.  I didn't have the time, energy, or drive to attempt to summit Storm King Mountain, so a little ridge scrambling was sufficient.
